Scene 6

First Minister's residence.

Enter witches L. dressed in white overalls and carrying wallpaper, bucket of paste, white sheets, wallpapering table, etc.

Morag             So this is where the First Minister lives.

Katy                "Great pudding of the chieftain race..."

Isabel              Oh, you are a cheeky monkey.

Morag             Anyway, we need to be careful and not waste any of this wallpaper. It's very expensive, you know - it's hand-printed.

She unrolls some of it - it has hand shapes printed on it.

Isabel              Now Katy, we'll have to take down these paintings and put sheets over everything.

Katy                (pointing to modern art painting in style of Rothko) That one's upside down.

Morag             How can you tell?

Katy                And I think that one's Pollock's.

Isabel              Now hen, there's no need for bad language.

Katy                No, Isabel, I think it's painted by Jackson Pollock.

Morag             Who's he?

Katy                Oh, never mind. She looks exasperated and gestures to the audience.

Isabel              Gives us a hand hen.

Katy                Okay.

Isabel and Katy take down the pictures and carry them off stage.

Morag unrolls a roll of wallpaper on the table, but it rolls back up again. She does this a second time, then tries to hold down the end of the roll with her foot. When that doesn't work, she starts looking around and picks up a vase (or similar ornament), using that to hold down the end of the wallpaper.

Isabel and Katy return. While Morag is bending down to pick up the bucket of paste, Isabel picks up the vase and carries it off stage.

The same thing happens again with another ornament.

Meanwhile, Katy puts a sheet over come of the furniture, then puts another sheet over her head.

Katy                Look at me! I'm a ghost!

Morag             Very funny, pet.

Katy  carries more items off stage R.

Enter Ghost L with sheet over head, who waves arms in the air.

Ghost              Woooooo!

Isabel              Now Katy, stop messing about. We have work to do.

The ghost stops waving arms, and traipses off stage L dejectedly.

Katy comes back on stage R. Morag and Isabel do a double-take.

Isabel              How did she do that?

Morag             Dunno.

Come on, we'll start at this end.

Isabel sets up step ladders at one end of the stage. Morag carries bucket of paste to foot of steps, then goes back to table. Katy moves bucket to another part of the stage.

Katy                I'd better move this. There could be an accident.

Morag sees the bucket has moved, so she puts down the paper, returns the bucket to the foot of the steps, then picks up the wallpaper. Meanwhile, Katy carries an item off stage and Isabel moves the bucket again.

Morag             Gonnae no move that bucket?

Isabel              Oh, sorry.

She puts it back. Morag climbs up the step ladders with the wallpaper, while Katy comes back on stage and puts the bucket on the table.

Morag             Katy! I need that bucket over here!

Katy returns the bucket to the foot of the step ladders, while Morag comes down the steps and puts her foot in the bucket. It gets stuck.

Morag             Give me a hand!

Isabel holds onto the bucket while Morag lifts her foot up. As they struggle, Katy picks up a vase (or similarly fragile object) while standing right behind Morag. As Morag's foot comes free, she staggers backwards towards Katy, who deftly steps back, lifting the vase above the level of Morag's head.

Katy then carries the vase off stage R.

*** More stuff to go here - they make a big mess. Scene ends with Morag chasing the other two round the stage ***

Morag             Come back here so I can leather you!
